In a demonstration of commitment to supporting military families, State School Superintendent Richard Woods visited Camden County High School, presenting the prestigious Military Flagship School Award to three of our schools. The presentation took place on March 28, 2025, at Camden County High School, where Superintendent Woods honored Camden County High School, Kingsland Elementary School, and Matilda Harris Elementary School for their exceptional efforts in supporting military students.
The Military Flagship School Award is an esteemed honor granted to 25 schools for the 2024-2025 academic year, acknowledging their exceptional support for military students and their families. This recognition underscores the schools' steadfast commitment, diligence, and resilience in addressing the distinct needs of military children.
“As the son of a military family, I understand firsthand the challenges and transitions military families face,” Superintendent Woods said. “That’s why it’s so important to me to recognize schools that go above and beyond to support Georgia’s military-connected students. These 25 schools have created welcoming, stable environments where military families feel valued and supported. One of the most meaningful ways we can honor those who serve is by serving their children well.”
Camden County High School, Kingsland Elementary School, and Matilda Harris Elementary School have implemented programs to support military students and families. These include training for school personnel to understand military children's unique challenges, fostering community connections for military parents and children, and creating opportunities for military families to engage and feel respected in their new school environments.
The award not only recognizes the schools' efforts but also serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by military families. "We are grateful for the opportunity to serve these students, who show incredible resilience and adaptability," said a representative from Camden County Schools. "Our schools are committed to ensuring they receive the support they need to succeed both academically and personally."
The presentation of the Military Flagship Award is a moment of pride for Camden County, showcasing the community’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for every student. This recognition inspires ongoing efforts to enhance educational opportunities for military children and underscores the vital role that schools play in assisting military families. The event celebrated the accomplishments of Camden County schools and emphasized the importance of supporting those who serve our nation.
