Woodbine Elementary School’s very own Joyce Lane has been honored with the prestigious title of Georgia School Nutrition Association (GSNA) Manager of the Year and was also awarded the Beyond the Plate award for the state of Georgia. Before receiving these statewide honors, Joyce was first named Manager of the Year for both Camden County and District 8 GSNA, recognizing her outstanding work at the local and regional levels. These accolades highlight her exceptional contributions to school nutrition—but her impact extends far beyond the cafeteria.

Joyce’s dedication to nourishing children and adults alike is nothing short of inspiring. She has not only fed thousands of students during her tenure at Woodbine Elementary, but she has also touched countless lives through her selfless acts of love and care. Her story is one of resilience, compassion, and unyielding commitment to others.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Joyce’s life is her deep sense of family and service. Over the years, she has raised 14 children who were not her own, showing a level of dedication and compassion that is rare. She has opened her heart and home to those in need, providing food, shelter, and love to individuals of all ages. When Joyce’s son tragically passed away, she didn’t hesitate to step in and care for her grandchildren, as well as others who required her support.

Her ability to give is boundless, and her influence has been felt by all who know her. Joyce is often described as more than just a school nutrition manager – she is a school nutrition hero. It’s not just about feeding children; Joyce makes it her mission to nourish their minds, bodies, and souls. Her kitchen is a place where children are not only served a hot meal, but also receive kindness, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. You can’t walk away from Joyce without feeling better than you did before.

Her impact on the school community extends well beyond the walls of the cafeteria. Former students have returned to the school as parents, sharing stories of how Joyce’s kindness and care changed their lives. They remember the love she provided during their time as students, and now, they bring their own children to experience the same warmth and compassion.

Joyce Lane’s remarkable service is a testament to the power of love and community. Her recognition as Georgia School Nutrition Manager of the Year and recipient of the Beyond the Plate award is well-deserved. Camden County Schools is incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated, caring, and selfless individual making a difference in the lives of its students.
